Snuk Foods is a global bazaar of the best specialty ingredients from across the world. They’re on a mission to end the “ethnic foods” aisle of your supermarket because people of every background deserve the convenience of healthy, delicious ingredients delivered right to their doors.
Snuk is targeting a large number of different environments including immigrant households, home cooks, restaurants, young experimenters, global travelers. Snuk is aimed at providing a rich online experience to purchase select and hard to find items used to cook these recipes.
Urfa biber from Turkey, gingko vinegar from Korea, fish sauce from Vietnam, and roasted baby apricot kernels from Afghanistan—these are among the 2,000-plus items available at Snuk Foods, a newly-launched online bazaar of global ingredients and specialty foods.
Founded in 2017 by entrepreneurs Betsy Fox and Scott Cantini, the website curates high quality and ethically-sourced products from around the world, with a focus on cuisines along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.
“Our inspiration really came out of a need in the marketplace,” Fox said. “As avid home cooks and world travelers, we’ve all had to go to four or five stores to get all the ingredients to recreate a ‘global’ dish, particularly foods from the Middle East and South Asia. We wanted a single destination with guaranteed quality for food from regions that people are curious about.”
Along with Fox, Snuk Foods has a team of ingredient obsessives, market buyers, professional chefs, seasoned cooks, globetrotting journalists, and supply chain operatives. They have on-the-ground experience at production regions in Latin America, the Middle East, and East and Southeast Asia. In other words, They know quality when They see it.
For the folks at Snuk, accessibility is key: “I think everyone has had that experience of going into a store in Chinatown, seeing so many products with labels you can’t read, and not knowing the quality of what’s in the bottle. We’ve taken the guesswork out of that for you” Fox added.
They’ve painstakingly selected over 2,000 exceptional dry goods (rice, flours, beans, lentils, and noodles), bottled condiments (sauces, chile, and curry pastes, jams, and preserves), prepared foods (ready to eat foods, healthy mixes, and nuts and fruits), dried herbs and spices, artisan creations, and nostalgic favorites, ensuring you can always get the hard-to-find ingredients you’re looking for. And if you don’t know what you’re looking for? They’re here to share a world of flavor.
They’re also proud to work with sourcing partners around the world, such as Kalustyan’s, the New York specialty food destination that supplies the most demanding cooks and professional chefs with over 10,000 ingredients from dozens of countries. Snuk Foods ships to all addresses in the contiguous United States via FedEx
Snuk is the romanization of สนุก (sanook), a Thai word that translates directly as “fun,” but refers more broadly to a sense of joy and free-spiritedness celebrated in Thai culture. It’s also the name of a very good girl that one of our co-founders met on an ingredient-sourcing trip in Thailand. Curious, loyal, and raised on a diet of roast meats and tropical fruit fresh off the tree, Snuk the dog is our mascot and guiding star, a reminder that cooking, family, and joy are best intertwined.
Snuk draws upon the inventories of a range of global producers and sourcing partners, including famed New York specialty market Kalustyan’s. Top products are then compiled into a catalog that encompasses hard-to-find grains and flours, chutneys and curry pastes, and hundreds of different herbs and spices. Items ship to customers directly from the company’s warehouse.
